Samuel Maddox (1640-1684) of Green Springs Farm, St. Mary's Co, Md.
Samuell Maddox of "St. Marious" County wrote his Last Will and Testament on the 18th day of January 1684, and noted the following:
my body to be buried by my wife...son "Motley" Maddox 300 acres of this land I now live upon...it being fourteen thousand pounds of tobacco that was given by Governor Motley & it is my desire that he should enjoy the same at 16 years of age...son Samuell Maddox 100 acres of land called the Indian fields "joyning" upon John Hiltons Land...my third son William Maddox...my youngest son John Maddox...I give & bequeath one negroe woman and a child and three English hounds unto my four sons afore named...that Captin Justinian Jordon, John Hilton, Ralph Foster and John Smith do look after my children in their minority...signed in presence of Edward O. Smoot, Rich Hogan, Robert Fletchor, Lawrance Bedingfeild...recorded 9th day of March 1685[1]
