William Thomas Maddy, son of Joseph and Rhoda Simmons Maddy, was born in Marion county, Iowa, on August 23, 1876, and passed away at his home near Fonda, Iowa, December 9, 1932, aged 56 years, 3 months and 16 days.

Funeral services, conducted by R.B. Bingaman, were held at the Zion church in Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial took place in the Zion cemetery.

Mr. Maddy was married to Lettie R. Duckworth on October 20, 1901. To this union three children were born, Carl, Merle and Esther, all of whom are living. Thirteen years of his early married life were spent in California and Colorado, and the remainder of his life was spent in Iowa, most of it on a farm in Pleasant township, this county. About four years ago he moved to the vicinity of Fonda where he had since made his home.

He is survived by his wife and the children mentioned above, and by one sister, Mrs. F. E. Shimp, of Russell, and two brothers, James M. of Fonda, and John L., of Russell. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister and one brother. He was a kind and devoted husband and father, a splendid citizen, and very highly esteemed by all who knew him. ^[1]
