On 6 October 2017, Eleanor RUTHERFORD was removed as spouse of this individual as she was born almost 100 years after his death and as such could not have been his wife. She is still seen as his wife on trees on ancestry, but again she was not alive during the profiled's lifetime so could not have been his spouse. He may have been married to a lady with a similar name, but not that particular Eleanor.
The William Maddy who was father to the two attached children (William christened 1690 and Joan christened 1696, both in Dorstone, Herefordshire) had a wife named Joan (she was named on the children’s christening records).
There is another William Maddy having children christened in Dorstone with a wife named Phebe around the same time.
Looking at the dates of the children christened in Dorstone around 1695 +/- ten years to William & Phebe and William & Joan, there are clearly two different men named William having children christened at the same time (christening records all found on FMP:
William m Joan
William m Phoebe
Care will need to be taken to distinguish which William is being referred to in any other sources.
The name is also common in this time and place and with many spelling variations. An explanation is required for why a man born in Nant Y Bard, Combe Manor Fowminde, England is the same William who married a Joan and had two children christened in Dorstone, Herefordshire.
