Frank Mader was born in Germany in 1847 and worked as a cooper (barrel maker) after immigrating to the United States. In May, 1870, he married Canadian Johanna / Annie Lynch. The couple settled in Lockport, Niagara, New York, where they are found on the 1870 federal census of the United States in July, 1870. We believe their oldest son, John, was born in Lockport in 1872. Shortly after his birth, the couple relocated to the now-defunct town of East Saginaw, Michigan.
He and his wife, Johanna (Anna) Lynch, lived in East Saginaw until shortly after the birth of their son Francis in 1873. Then he was hired by the cooper shop in Bay City called Dolson, Chapin & Co.
Frank also appeared to be a rather politically-inclined resident of Bay City. He was elected to at least two terms on the Bay City Board of Education, though his death cut short the later of the two terms. He was also elected as a delegate to the Prohibitionist convention in 1892.
Tragically, Frank lost his job with the cooper shop. He was able to get hired on by the Marquette
In addition to son Francis, who passed away in 1875 in Bay City, Frank and Annie had sons John and Frank Thomas, and daughters Eva, Mary, Emma, and Agnes at the time of his death. Little Margaret was born just a couple of weeks after her father's death, but then she died just three months and three days after her own birth.[1]
