Pearl (Mader) Swartz passed away peacefully on her 94th birthday, March 13, 2013. Born in 1919 to Mabel and Herman Mader while they were missionaries in Shanghai, China, she has always had a strong faith in the Lord. After being born in China, her family returned to the family farm, the Clear Creek Ranch, in the mid-20s. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1938 and studied interior design at WSU before moving to California to be near her lifelong friend, Helen Stueckle. She worked at the phone company in California, and while on a hay ride with the youth group she met Paul Swartz. They were married April 6, 1943 at the Colfax Assembly of God. She joined Paul in Japan as part of the WWII occupation force. In 1954, they moved to Colfax to be closer to her family. In 1960, they moved to Seattle where they lived for 26 years. She worked as a bookkeeper and retired from US Bank. When their grandchildren began to get involved in sports, they moved across the state to Spokane and eventually Colfax to make it easier for them to cheer on her family and the rest of their high school and collegiate teammates. For the past 10 years they have lived near their oldest grandson in Portland, and for the past year have lived in Apache Junction, AZ with their only daughter. She is survived by her two sisters, Grace Schmick (long time resident of Colfax, currently resides in Tacoma) and Evelyn Chambers (Spokane). She leaves behind her husband of nearly 70 years, Paul Swartz, who still resides in Arizona near their daughter, Suzanne Lindbo, and her husband Darrell. In addition to her daughter, she treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Torrey (and Angela) Lindbo; Randy (and Jamie, Ryder and Sage) Lindbo; Sheela (and Matthew, Annie, Breeana and Jarren) Hooper; and Kirk Lindbo; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be buried in a private ceremony on Saturday, March 23, at the Colfax Cemetery. A public memorial service will be scheduled for the future. On-line guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is caring for the family. [1]
