Mary Jane Malam was born on 30 September 1866[1][2] in Waikomiti (Glen Eden) as the second daughter of John Malam and Sarah Jane Lepper.
John Malam Built a home at the end of Hepburn Road, Glen Eden near their brickyard[1]. Mary went to Henderson Mill School and won several prizes from 1878[3] to 1880[4].
She Married William Wilson Pirrit on 29 January 1890 in Auckland, New Zealand[5][6].
Her first son William Malam Pirrit was born in Henderson on August 17, 1890 with Florence following in 1891. In about 1895 the family bought land in New Lynn, New Zealand with the Homestead on the corner of Binstead road and Bollard(now Delta) Avenue. Her other children were born in New Lynn.
In 1926[7], at the age of 59, Mary died of Breast Cancer. She had been the hub of the family and had gathered the extended family together for huge family lunches[1].
She was buried in Waikumete Cemetery in the same plot as her mother Sarah Jane Malam[8][9].
