He was a farmer at Buffelshoek, Zwagershoek, Somerset-East. He took part in the Slagtersnek rebellion and was found guilty. He married his cousin Elizabeth Malan on 27 October 1771. She was born in Stellenbosch on 21 October 1753 and died in Somerset-East on 18 February 1842. She was the daughter of Daniel Malan and Emerentia Steyn. [6]
