Biography

Jacob Daniel was born on 13 May 1785 in the Wagonmakers Valley in the Cape Colony.[1]. He was the son of Daniel Malan and Debora Naude.[2]
He was baptised on 22 May 1785 in the Dutch Reformed Church of Drakenstein in Paarl. [2]
On 1 January 1804 he married Margaretha Johanna Retief in the Dutch Reformed Church of Cape Town in Cape Town.[3]
On 10 November 1805 Daniel Francois Malan was born.
On 30 January 1830 his father in law, Johannes Hendrik Retief, transferred the farm Vondeling to him and Retief's son, Daniel Johannes Retief. It consisted of 30 morgen 453 square roods and 379 morgen 36 square roods quintrent land.[4]
In 1841 Vondeling was divided between him and the widow of Daniel Johannes Retief.[4]
On 5 May 1850 he transferred Vondeling to his son in law, Jan Hendrik Malan.[4]
He died on 20 June 1856 at his residence in the Wagonmakers Valley at the age of 71 years 1 month and 7 days.[1]
