Biography

Martha was born before 1720. She is the daughter of Andrew Mallet and Martha Morris. [1]

Martha Mallett was born about 1720 [American Genealogical-Biographical Index], most likely at the family homestead in Somerville, where her father Andrew Mallett was miller.

May 31st 1739, Shadrach Ireland and Martha Mallet, of Charlestown, were joined in marriage, by the Revd Mr Hull Abbot. [2]

May 4th 1740, "Martha the wife of Shadrack Ireland (admitted to) First Church in Charlestown" [3]

About 1760, Shadrach abandoned his wife Martha and children (Martha, Shadrach, Jonathan, Tabitha, Elizabeth, Margaret) to practice his religion.[4]

Martha passed away July 19th 1778 and her etate administered by her son Jonathan Ireland. It included house, barn & 6.5 acres land, total real estate valuation $204. Children= Martha, Shadrach, Jonathan, Tabitha.[5]

She was buried in the Phipps St Burying Ground (row 5 sec C #57) at Charlestown. The inscription on her headstone reads: "Here lies the Body of / Mrs Martha Ireland wife / of Mr Shadrach Ireland / who departed this life / July the 19th 1778 / Aged 58 years / The sweet remembrance of the just / shall flourish when they sleep in dust."
