Ancil Washington Manley was born September 28, 1763 in Fluvanna County, Virginia and died June 22, 1853 in Anderson County, Tennessee. He married Elizabeth D. Butler on November 19, 1785 in Bedford County, Virginia. Ancil was a private in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted June 18. 1780 in Fluvanna County under Captain Joseph Hardin as a private serving in Virginia. He started recieveing his annual pension of $22.34 on June 17, 1833 at age 71. By 1807 he had removed to Anderson County, Tennessee where he bought 200 acres on Main Poplar Creek from his brother in law Thomas Butler(Boetler) for $400. The 1830 census Anderson County, Tennessee listed Ancil as Answell with his wife and one son. John, one of his sons is also listed living there with his wife and one son. Ancil is buried on his farm on Poplar Creek.
