Biography

Elizabeth was born on 27 Nov 1823 in Chatham, North Carolina. She was the daughter of John Wesley Mann and Dicea Hasting (West) Mann.

In 1845 she married Edwin M Whitehead (1825–1862). She is listed with Edwin on the 1850 Census [1] and the 1860 Census.[2] It is believed that Elizabeth and Edwin had six children:

  • Wesley M. Whitehead (1848–1852)
  • Calvin G Whitehead (1850–1852)
  • Fletcher M Whitehead (1853–1862)
  • Mary J. Whitehead (1856–1911)
  • Celia Ann (Whitehead) Marley (1858–1927) [3]
  • Edwin Talley Whitehead (1861–1930) [4]

Edwin passed away in 1862 and a few years after his death she was married to Jeremiah S. Bray (1812–1894) on August 8, 1865 in Randolph, North Carolina.[5] She is listed with Jeremiah on the 1880 Census. [6] Elizabeth and Jeremiah had at least one child that has been verified by sources:

Lula Viola (Bray) Cox (1867–1944)[7]

Elizabeth Jane (Mann) Whitehead Bray died on 18 Feb 1910 in Randolph, North Carolina.[8]
