CENSUS INFORMATION: In the 1920 US Census, she is listed as Mary Mann, aged 6 and born in Utah. She is living with her mother, her maternal grandmother, 2 uncles and 2 sisters, in Second West Street, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. (Supervisors District 344, Enumeration District 117, Sheet 7B).
In the 1930 US Census, she is listed as Mary E Norell, aged 16 and born in Utah. She is living with her mother and step-father in the Hospital Line, San Andreas, Calaveras, California. (Supervisors District 4, Enumeration District 45-1, Sheet 7B).
In the 1940 US Census, she is listed as Mary E Johnson, aged 27 and born in Utah. She is living with her second husband and 2 daughters, in 3024 East Street, Calura City, Fresno county, California. (Supervisors District 9, Enumeration District 10-83, Sheet 9A).

GENERAL NOTES: Daughter of Terry and Eunice Rachel Mann. However, mother Rachel remarried about 1922 to John Norell, and Mary's surname changed to his at that time.

MARRIAGE: First marriage: She was divorced by her first husband before 1940. A notice in the local paper reads:

"WIFE IS CHARGED WITH CRUELTY IN SUIT FOR DIVORCED FILED MONDAY. Action for divorce was filed in Mariposa Superior Court Monday by Walter J Argall against Mary E Argall on the grounds of extreme cruelty. Argall charges his wife disliked living in the mountains and requested that he go to the city, where she prefers to reside. The plaintiff claims that he has spent his entire life-time in the mountains and has been employed as a ranger in Yosemite National Park. He also alleges that he worked there prior to his marriage and that his wife knew the facts, failing to mention her dislike for the mountains until after they were married. They were wed in Merced on April 14th 1935 and separated at Wawona on August 17th of this year. They have one child who custody Argall asks be awarded the defendant. He is willing to contribute $30 per month for its support, according to the complaint, which was prepared by Louis T Milburn."
