Henry was born at Holcombe Rogus on 29 November 1810 and baptised there on 25 December 1810. [1] He was the son of James Mansfield and his wife Mary.
Henry Mansfield a cordswainer and a sojourner in the parish married Sarah Makepeace, at Wellington on 27 April 1832. The witnesses were Solomon Loney, James Mansfield and Elizabeth Hagley [2] Henry signed his name. There were nine children from the marriage
Henry, Sarah and their surviving children Henry, Sarah and Mary emigrated to New South Wales on the "James Pattison" arriving on 11 December 1838. [3]
On 20 September 1845 Henry Mansfield, bootmaker was admitted to Darlinghurst prison in New South Wales on bail and released 24 Setpember 1845. [4]
By 1848 when Charles was born the family was living in Tasmania.
In 13 April 1881 the police requested information "respecting the wherabouts of Henry Mansfield, who is of weak intellect, and wandered from his home, in Adelaide, on 6th inst. Descrpition - Aged 71 years, height 5ft. 7in., grey hair, whiskers, beard etc; wore dark clothes and white hat with black band". [5]
Henry died at Trebarton, South Australia on 16 October 1884. [6]
