Biography

Bethiah Mansfield was born in Salem, Massachusetts, in the summer of 1658 to Andrew Mansfield and Bethiah (possibly Gedney but unproven).^[1] She married John Conant, son of Lot Conant and Elizabeth Walton, in the spring of 1678.^[2] The couple settled in Beverly, Massachusetts, and had ten known children:

• 1682-1750: Elizabeth,^[4] m. Daniel Colburn, 1700
• 1684-1759: Bethiah,^[5] m. Jonathan Herrick, 1713
• 1686-1760: John,^[6] m. 1st Martha Dodge, 1713; m. 2nd Mary Lovett, 1722
• 1687-1763: Deborah,^[7] m. John Derby, 1707
• 1689-<1724: Mary^[8]
• 1694-1751: Daniel,^[9] m. Lucy Dodge, 1717
• 1696-1770: Rebecca,^[10] m. Benjamin Cleaves, 1718

All the children except for Mary are named in John's 1724 will, so it is assumed that she predeceased him.

Bethiah died in Beverly in the summer of 1720.^[13] John followed four years later, in the fall of 1724.^[14] Their gravesites are unknown.
