Biography

Flora was born in 1910. She married Lafe Gray Gray-36223 in 1928 when she was 18 years old. In 1929 Joy Lucille Gray-36207 was born. She died in 1930. In 1931 Lola Fern Gray-36192 was born followed by Johnie Lafe (JL) Gray-36209 in 1933 and Bobby Leonard Gray-36224 in 1937.

Around 1945 Flora entered the Arkansas State Tuberculosis Sanatorium. ^[1] While she was a patient the children were sent to stay with relatives. According to Lola Fern she "stayed with Grandma Gray, then Aunt Osie, then Grannie Maple[[Clayton-2327]. Bob and Bub stayed with Grandma Gray." While in the Sanitorium, Flora left Lafe and sought a divorce. According to her daughter, Lola Fern, Lafe was violent and verbally and physically abuse. Flora would have left earlier but townspeople were afraid of Lafe and no one would help her. Petition for divorce ^[2] was filed on 22 Aug 1949 with alleged cause for petition being listed as abandonment. Flora listed her residence as the State Sanitorium, Arkansas.

Flora left the Sanitorium sometime around 1949, wearing a body brace because she had TB in her spine. She moved into a little house purchased for her by her children. In December of 1960 she traveled from Arkansas to Ventura County, California to visit with her daughter Lola Fern and son Bob.

She passed away in 1963 and is buried in Cardwell Cemetery, Cardwell, Missouri, under a headstone she shares with parents.
