Rebecca Marchant's father was Jabez Marchant (25 Apr 1749 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 9 Jan 1829 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) son of Daniel Merchant (16 Nov 1721 Gloucester, Essex, Mass -) and Hannah Woodbury (24 Feb 1723 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 19 May 1779 in Gloucester, Essex, Mass).

Rebecca Marchant's mother was Rebecca A Woodbury (25 Sep 1757 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 20 Jan 1816 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) daughter of Samuel Woodbury (8 Sep 1717 Beverly, Essex, Mass - 30 Dec 1762 in Beverly, Essex, Mass) and Judith Ober (6 May 1721 in Beverly, Essex, Mass - about 1756 Beverly, Essex, Mass).

On 8 Dec 1805 in Gloucester, Essex, Mass Rebecca Marchant married Zaccheus Lane (7 Jun 1769 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 2 May 1819 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) son of Caleb Lane (16 Nov 1729 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 10 Feb 1783 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) and Lydia Riggs (11 Dec 1728 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 21 Mar 1812 Gloucester, Essex, Mass).

Zaccheus Lane and Rebecca Marchant had five children:

1) Rebecca Lane 6 (22 Apr 1807 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 26 Jul 1849 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) died unmarried, no children.

2) Caroline Lane 6 (29 Nov 1809 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 28 Sep 1859 Boston, Suffolk, Mass) married George I Sampson (02 Jul 1808 Falmouth, Cumberland, Maine - abt 1880 in Lisbon, Androscoggin, Maine). Caroline Lane and George I Sampson had one son: James Edward Sampson (1839 – 1913). George I Sampson also had two children with his first wife Mary Brown (1808 – 1837): Mary Elizabeth Sampson (1833 –) and George Brown Sampson (1835 – 1872). Caroline Lane and George I Sampson also raised Abby F Gerald / Jerrold (1841 –) in their Boston home, the daughter of Susan Marchant Lane and Israel R Gerald see below. Caroline Lane and George I Sampson's son James Edward Sampson (1839 – 1913) married Henrietta E Bird (1841 – 1915) and they had four children: George Edward Sampson (1861 – 1905), Caroline "Carrie" May Sampson (1863 –), Annie E Sampson (1865 –) and Maria Adela Sampson (1867 – 1949). They have probably over one hundred living descendants mostly in the New England area.

3) Cyrus Lane 6 (8 Jun 1812 Bay View, Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 22 Nov 1889 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) married Sarah Elizabeth Rowe (27 Nov 1814 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 2 April 1877 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) and they had seven children: James H Lane (1835 – 1889), Sarah Frances Lane (1837 – 1853), Cyrus Lane, Jr (1839 – 1860), Abraham Ober Lane (1843 – 1882), Elizabeth Anna Lane (1845 – 1860), George William Lane (1849 – 1920) and Charles J Bennet Lane (1854 – 1898).

4) Susan Marchant Lane 6 (21 Oct 1814 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 17 Aug 1854 Georgetown, Essex, Mass) married Israel R Gerald also spelled Jerald and Jerrald (abt Worcester, Worcester, Mass - 24 May 1850 Gloucester, Essex, Mass) and they had four children: Susan M Gerald (1834 – 1923), Amanda B Jerald (1838 – 1864), Abby F Gerald / Jerrold (1841 – raided by her aunt Caroline Lane and George I Sampson in Boston) and George Jerald (1846 – 1850). Their daughter Susan M Gerald married 1st John James Thompson and 2nd William Henry Knight and had four children including Mabel Georgie Thomas who married Elisha Ingram Duncan who is probably over one hundred living descendants in the Great Plains and mid Western United States.

5) Betsy Marchant Lane 6 (26 Jul 1817 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 12 Aug 1889 in Gloucester, Essex, Mass) married Ezekiel W Chard (6 Mar 1808 Gloucester, Essex, Mass - 28 Jun 1896 in Gloucester, Essex, Mass) and they had three children: Anna Rebecca Chard (1838 – 1913), Elizabeth Lizzie Chard (1842 – 1926) and Harriett Pearce "Hattie" Chard (1847 – 1921). Disambiguation: This is *not* Betsy (Lane) Mack (21 Jul 1817 New York - 9 Dec 1901 White Pigeon, Saint Joseph, Michigan) wife of Lysander Charles Mack (1808 – 1865) who was daughter of Charles Lane. They are often confused but they have separate death records and separate census data.
