He was the lieutenant-Colonel under General Charles Cavendish, brother of the Duke of Newcastle. He died in battle, though reports conflict about the location.
Colonel Thomas Markham: His name and the date partly obliterated, are engraved on a flagstone in the north aisle of Ollerton Church: HERE LIETH THE BODY OF THOMAS MARKHAM ESQ SONNE AND HEIRE TO GEORGE MARKHAM ESQ WHO DECEASED THE XXii. DAY OF MAY AN DOM 1643. [2]
