An Upset. On Monday evening, as Messrs. Edward and George Marsh were driving a spring-cart along the Stoney Creek road, the vehicle came into contact with a boulder on the road, precipitating the occupants into a ditch; considerably bruising both gentlemen. As might have been imagined the accident was not calculated to steady the horse, quite a young animal, and it was with great difficulty it was kept from getting into the ditch on the opposite side. Mr George Marsh was shaken very severely, while his brother had his wrist sprained. Manawatu Times, Volume III, Issue 43, 21 May 1879
Death of Mr E. Marsh.
About ten o'clock this morning,' Mr Edward Marsh "succumbed to the illness from which he has been suffering far a long time past. The deceased gentleman came to Palmerston some ten years ago, being one of those who came out under the auspices of the Feilding Corporation . He preferred, however settling in Palmerston, and not long after became owner of a store at Terrace End, where he carried on business for a number of years. Of late years, however, his health broke down completely and it was known by his friends that his end was drawing near. It came this morning, his spirit passed away. The late Mr Marsh was respected and esteemed by all who knew him, and his loss will be keenly felt in the circle in which he moved. He may be referred to as a man in the best sense of the word, a devoted husband, a faithful citizen and a true friend. His sorrowing widow and relatives will have the melancholy satisfaction of knowing they have the heartfelt sympathy, of all who knew Mr Marsh. The funeral will take place on Sunday next, and as Mr Marsh belonged to both the Masons and Foresters those bodies are requested to assemble to take part in the funeral.
