'The community was shocked Saturday to hear that Mrs. Ellen Wood, who was in her usual health Friday, had died of pneumonia. She went down cellar Friday, while about her housework, and it is supposed caught cold. That afternoon she had a chill, but wouldn't have a doctor, and went to bed early. Next morning when her son, H.N. Wood, went to wake her, he found her very ill. A doctor was called at once, and messages were sent to all the children; she died that evening. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Erena Currie, of Battle Ground, Wash., and eight children--Chas., of Portland, Oregon, Amy Lansing, of Buel, Idaho, Lucy Young, of Bellingham, Wash., John, of Idaho, Mary Ogilvie, of Roswell, N.M., Millie Thompson, of Waverly, Wilbur, of Ladysmith, and Herbert, of Spring Valley--besides many friends, to sorrow at her death. She was born May 19th, 1846, in Vermont and was therefore in her 82nd year. Her health was excellent, and she enjoyed life till the last. She was a woman who loved home and her children, and since coming to Spring Valley has not been out much; but as one of the pioneers of the Ono community she was widely known and liked. The funeral was held today. Services were held at the house here by Rev. D.L. Holbrook; the body was then taken to Grange Hall, where Rev. Smallwood conducted services in the church, and she was buried beside her husband, Hiram Wood, who died many years ago.'
