Biography

ETHEL VIRGINIA HOLMES, 90, of 712 Naples Drive, Hagerstown, Md. died on Monday, December 25, 2006 at her home.

Born November 23, 1916 in Sharpsburg, Md. she was the daughter of the late Joseph Marshall and Ida Marshall Brashears.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Lee Thomas and her second husband, Henry C. Holmes.

She retired from Hagerstown Shoe Company.

She was a member of Evangelistic Temple.

She is survived by three daughters, Rhoda A. Whittington of Hagerstown, Betty Eichelberger of Smithsburg, Md., and Gladys A. Ritchie of Hagerstown , a son, Leon A. Thomas, Sr. of Hagerstown; a sister, Janice White of Lakeland, Florida; 9 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara T. Thomas, a step-daughter, Carrie Mae Netz, three step-sons, Richard L. Thomas, Theodore H. Thomas and Donald L. Thomas; two step grandsons; three sisters, Myrtle Byram, Mary McCoy and Beatrice Fraley and four brothers, Joseph Marshall, Frank Marshall, Luther Marshall and Russell Eaton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Thomas J. Stottlemyer will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangelistic Temple, 764 Spruce Street, Hagerstown, Md. 21740 or Hospice of Washington Co., Western Maryland Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.
