Thomas was the second son of Robert Martin and his wife Elizabeth Kelway. The author of his article in the History of Parliament suggests a birthdate of 1530, however, his elder brother was born in 1530 [1] Thomas, was still a minor at his fathers death but he is known to have had several younger brothers, 3 of which were named in his mothers will [2] He also had three known sisters [3]An estimated birthdate of c.1531 has been used
As a second son, Thomas inherited a small estate, that of Park Pale. This may have been part of the originally enclosed deer park belonging to the Athelhampton estate. It is situated within the parish of Tolpuddle. [4] He also inherited other land within the parish of Tolpuddle after the death of his uncle Henry Martin
He is thought to have been the second member for Dorchester in the. parliament of 1563. Otherwise, like his father Robert he was probably a sheep farmer. [5]
Marriage
He married Elizabeth Gerrard, daughter of William Gerard of Trent, Somerset (now in Dorset)[6] The marriage took place at Trent on 25th of November 1561[7]
Nicholas baptised the 3rd January 1570/1 at Trent [9][10]
These additional children's baptisms were found in the Trent register . The girls are mentioned in their mother, Elizabeth's will . No burial of Thomas has been found but he does not appear in the visitation or in Elizabeths will so it would appear he died young (could have been buried in the family chapel at Puddletown. There are many Martin burials but no ages given)
Catherine baptised the 15th? January 1573/4 at Trent [14]
Death and Burial
The history of Parliament article gives a year of death of about 1583. (he died within a year of being asked to oversee the will of his brother in law) and notes that he was buried at Puddletown. Hutchins also gives a date from the register extant in his time as 1583. However, the burial is recorded in the Puddletown register on 16th March 1584. (St Mary, Puddletown has a 'Martyn chapel' containing the burials and monuments to the Martyns of Athelhampton),this is where his brother and his ancestors were buried [15]
Note
The original date on this profile was 1562, with a christening date of 1562 in Egginton, Derby) [16]
The death date has also been changed from after 1612 to 1584 in accord with the History of Parliament article .
The sources of confusion of dates on this profile may stem in part from a gedcom from Geni which is has incorrect , unsourced and has implausible dates. Robert Martin being born in 1539, (he died in 1549 as stated in his IPM) Thomas Martin being born in 1562 yet marrying in 1561! The dates of birth of the children are clearly incorrect . [17]

Martin-41408 and Martin-10279 appear to represent the same person because: See previous comments. His father died in 1548. ( the duplicate profile has the wife named as Mary Gerrard. This name is incorrect. Many internet trees call her Elizabeth . The correct name from parish registers and her will was Elizabeth )
Inherited a small part of the Athelhampton estate ie Pole Park (a farm) HOP suggests probably a sheep farmer like father.
doesn't appear to have been knighted.
married 1561
MP for Dorchester 1563.
4 children, of which 3rd, Thomas was 58 in 1623 (visitation of Dorset) therefore born 1564 so first 3 sons born in quick succession after marriage.
(these dates all need revising)
Asked to supervise will of brother in law Gerrard in 1583
Park Pale actually in Tolpuddle but death recorded in Puddletown register 1584 .. obviously later copy, no day mentioned (Thomas Martin gen was buried) NB There is a Martyn chapel in the parish church and this would be the logical place for him to be buried.
a marriage of Thomas Martine to Elizabeth Jerard at Trent on 25th November 1561
see Dorset OPC Trent (note was in Somerset during this period http://www.opcdorset.org/Trent/Trent.htm)
original text reads: Thomas Martine and Elizabeth Jerard married xxv daie of November (Dorset Hist Centre ) edited my spelling of November was a typo not an archaic version!
Note that his father's IPM was 1548, so it was impossible for Thomas to have been born in 1562.
I propose that his birth date should be changed to c1530 as in Hist of Parliament

Helen like you I have doubts about the accuracy of the birth and death dates for Robert, Thomas and son William. Will research these as time allows. Thank you for your notes. Your research and sources indicate earlier dates than currently documented. I am in agreement that the dates are in conflict with the sources indicated and the earler dates are probably closer to being correct.
See my note about his father Robert who died in 1548 thus making this date of birth impossible (part from History of parliament but also from Robert's will)
according to visitation of Dorset in 1623 (which seems to have been 'answered' by grandson Thomas who promises to 'come tomorrow and pay the fee!' The children of Thomas of 'Park Pale' and Elizabeth Kelway were: Francis, William, John and Nicholas. Thomas (grand son) was the son of William and Elizabeth Mancell. There is no mention of any other marriages, https://archive.org/stream/visitationofcound00stge#page/66/mode/2up/search/athelhampton
Edit correction; sorry Elizabeth Gerrard (Kelway was Robert Martyn's wife)
