Biography

James was born in 1791. James Martin ... He passed away in 1840. [1]

He was the son of James David Martin, a Merchant of Snow Hill, Maryland and Snow Hill, North Carolina and Elizabeth Glasgow, daughter of James Glasgow. His father died when he and his brother George Washington Martin were still young boys. Their mother remarried Stockley Donelson, and altogether this Scots Irish family was very close in proximity through blood and marriage with Andrew Jackson and solidified their names in early Tennessee, for good, bad or draw.
