Biography

Nathan was born in 1785. He was the son of William Martin and Hannah Chapman. He passed away in 1862. [1]

Leeson, Michael A. History of Seneca County, Ohio, 1886 has a profile for Nathan Martin on pages 742 and 743. This book says he fought on the American side in the War of 1812 under Dearborn. After being discharged, Nathan visited his mother's sisters in Canada. There he met his wife, Elizabeth (Devins) Martin who was the daughter of Mary "Polly" (Chapman) Devins and Isaac Devins. So Elizabeth could have been related to Nathan on the Chapman side. She is not likely to be his first cousin, though, since his mother's name is listed as Hannah nee Chapman but Elizabeth's aunt Hannah (Chapman) Devins, (Wikitree profile Chapman-8462), was in Canada and was too young to be Nathan's mother. Nathan Martin lived in Canada until 1839 when he moved the family to Seneca County, Ohio.

Nathan is buried in the Bloomville Quarry Cemetery, Bloomville, Seneca County, Ohio; Plot: Row 16.
