George Martin was born on 23 Sep 1722, in Ipswich, Massachusetts (Province of Massachusetts Bay). He was the son of John Martin and Jane Durke.[1]

George married Eunice Burnham on 22 Oct 1745, at the Chebacco Parish Church in Ipswich.[2] After their marriage, they lived in Ipswich, where five of their six known children were born:[3]

  1. Jonathan Martin (b. 26 Oct 1747, Ipswich)[4]
  2. John Martin (b. 26 Jan 1749, Ipswich)[5]
  3. Lucy Martin (b. 11 Jul 1751, Ipswich)[6]
  4. Joseph Martin (b. 24 Jul 1753, Ipswich)[7]
  5. Eunice Martin (b. 15 Dec 1758, Ipswich)[8]
  6. Mary Martin (b. 28 Jul 1762, Lunenburg)[9]

Between 1758 and 1762, George and Eunice relocated their family to Lunenburg in Worcester County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, where George became active in town life. On 1 Mar 1762, he was elected as Lunenburg's Culler of Staves.[10] On 7 Mar 1763, he was elected as one of Lunenburg's Surveyers and again elected as one of two Cullers of Staves, Hoops, and the like.[11]

George Martin died in Lunenburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts on 20 Nov 1779.[citation needed]

Probate

George Martin's estate was entered into probate and Jonathan Martin, a yeoman of Lunenburg, signed the Administration Bond on 15 Dec 1779. Standing as Jonathan's sureties for this bond were Jonathan Low, a gentleman, and Joseph Stearns, a laborer, both also of Lunenburg.[12]
