Working on children attached to Phebe (Bisby) Martin (bef.1611-aft.1683), have included the following comment,
  • Martin-1528--This Samuel (abt.1648-)--Profile does not report reliable sources (mentions Ancestral File and The Ancestry and Descendants of John Walker), but for a 1680 reference to Samuel and Phebe's son Samuel Martin, Jr and his brother, Joseph Martin, see remarks concerning litigation about the estate of William Bisby in Walter Goodwin Davis, The Ancestry of Sarah Stone ... (Portland, Me., The Southworth Press, 1930), 115-122 (Bisby) at 120-123 (6-William Bisby); digital images, HathiTrust. The same author remarks separately about a 1682 suit by Samuel Jr. (oldest son of the marriage) regarding the estate. At that time, he claimed to have been four years old when William Bisby made his will 1649/50--a claim "specifically denied." Citing "Chancery Proceedings before 1714, Bridges, 522/35-," Walter Goodwin Davis, The Ancestry of Sarah Stone ... (Portland, Me., The Southworth Press, 1930), 103-112 (Bracy) at 104; digital images, HathiTrust. (See the "brother," Joseph.)
  • Joseph Martin (abt.1650-)--Profile does not report reliable sources (mentions Ancestral File and The Ancestry and Descendants of John Walker), but for a 1680 reference to Samuel and Phebe's son Samuel Martin, Jr and his brother, Joseph Martin, see remarks concerning litigation about the estate of William Bisby in Walter Goodwin Davis, The Ancestry of Sarah Stone ... (Portland, Me., The Southworth Press, 1930), 115-122 (Bisby) at 120-123 (6-William Bisby); digital images, HathiTrust. Note on p. 105 includes, "In addition to their son Samuel, Mr. and Mrs. Martin had a younger son Joseph who died at Maidenstone, Kent, in infancy, according to the Chancery suits already quoted."
