Biography

Sarah was the daughter of John Martin and Margaret Hadley. Their families were members of the Society of Friends. We do not know Sarah's date of birth, but we do know that she married Joel Reece, whose family were also members of the Friends.^[1] Their marriage bond was dated 14 Jan 1804. Joel died in 1816 and Joel's father, Abraham, became guardian of their children. Thus it is presumable that Sarah also died in 1816. Their children are all named in the probate records for Joel's estate^[2] as well as in Abraham's 1821 last will and testament.^[3]

It is not known where Joel and Sarah are buried. It is touching to read the account of their household inventory^[4] in 1816 and to wonder about their too short lives.
