Biography

FRANCIS MARTIN was born Abt. 1766 in NC, and died Abt. 04 January 1856 in Terry, Hinds, MS. He married (1) ANN (POSSIBLY NANCY ANN) ? Bet. 1790 - 1795 in SC. She was born Abt. 1776 in SC, and died Bet. 1820 - 1826 in MS. He married (2) MATILDA JAMES 1834 in Jasper Co., MS.

Francis was born in an unknown location in NC., but he apparently married and began a family somewhere in SC., in the early 1790's. The first find is in Amilte Co., MS where he appears on the 1810 census. He was also apparently a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Amite County. He and his family left Amite Co., in 1815 (by letter, in Ebenezer Minutes) and went to Lawrence Co., MS., where they settled near the Pearl River. He appears there on the 1818 State census. He remains in Lawrence Co until sometime in early 1830's when he moves to Jasper Co., where he marries his second wife, Matilda James. (Ann died at least before 1830). Francis and Matilda left Jasper Co early in 1850's due to financial woes and moved in with son Thomas J. in Hinds Co. Francis died there in 1856 ( have two different dates). Bethesda Baptist church has the date listed as 5 May 1856. No will was left, but estate was administered 7 Jul 1856. Wife Matilda died 23 Aug. 1863.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Francis by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Francis:

Hi again! I was looking for my Killian ancestors and decided to go letter by letter through a reference I had for George and found Francis Martin.... It looks like y'all already have all the information listed there, but you might find it of interest nonetheless:

Cheers, Liz (gr-granddaughter of Edward Spencer Martin, who I don't think is related to Francis)

Hi Allan! Your proposed merge with Martin-15673 has received default approval. If you wanted to complete the merge yourself, please do (WikiTree Arborists are pretty efficient, so if you don't, someone else probably will soon). Cheers, Liz
