Josephine Martin était la fille de Francois-Xavier Martin et Marie Lina Rebecca Pilotte. Née le 28 Feb 1860 à Dover, Kent, Ontario, Canada.

Elle épousa Edmond Cheff, son cousin germain, à Ramsey, au Minnesota, USA le 21 Jun 1881. Par la suite le couple revint s'établir à Grande Pointe.
