Edward Martin came free to Van Diemen's Land (1826-1856)

1809 - Edward was born.[1]

1809 - born on 11 Mar 1809 and baptized 27 Apr 1809 at Warsop, Notts, England, the son of Rev Samuel Martin, rector, & Selina; Edward was known to be later appointed Ensign and Posted to 24th Regiment Madras Army; [2]

1827 - Cadet [3]

1835 - Edward Martin purchases a 40 acre parcel of land on the north- western boundary of the Village. [4]

1841 - Captain Edward Martin's home is a Historic Homestead in Tasmania. [5]Culzean, The historic gardens of Captain Martin are well know. [6]

1845 - Edward Retired 3 Apr 1845 [7]

1846 - Edward married Anne. Their Marriage Registration (#RGD37/1/4 no 2243 in year 1846) shows Edward Martin (Male) and Anne Fanny Maitland Dumas, ((Female) married on date 01 Jan 1846, registration district: Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. They were married in the Parish Church, St. John's Church, Newtown, Tasmania, according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England by Licence, in the presence of John Peston, Eliza Jones, R Pitcairn, and John Dumas, by the Minister, Thomas J. Ewing. [8]


1892 - Edward Martin on his Tasmanian death registration was described as a Gentleman, a Male born England, who died on 24 Dec 1892 at Stewart St, aged 83 years, from Disease of Heart. His death was registered by the undertaker in the Launceston, Tasmania, Australia registration district on 28 Dec 1892, [9][10] [11]
