Marie Martin was born around 1795 likely in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France. Her parents were Pierre Martin and Anne Gaudin. [1]

She was listed in the 1798 census in her parents' home at Port-Royal [2] and also in 1700 with her parents and siblings who were then living with Pierre's parents.[3] In 1701 she was enumerated at age 6. [4]

She married Pierre Bertaud dit Montaury (parents unknown), a fisherman and shoremaster (maître de grave) around 1714.[1]

Children:

  1. Marie Josèphe Bertaud dit Montaury ca 1715
  2. Jacques Bertaud dit Montaury ca 1717-1778
  3. Marguerite Bertaud ca 1720
  4. Anne Agathe Bertaud 1724-1797
  5. Françoise Bertaud dit Montaury ca 1727
  6. Jean François Bertaud 1729-
  7. Marie Josèphe Bertaud dit Montaury 1732

In 1717 the young couple was living at Île Royale (present-day Cape Breton) with one child. [5] Their son Jacques and daughter Marguerite were born there. By 1720 they had settled on Isle-Saint-Jean (present-day Prince Edward Island) where their four youngest children were born. In 1728 the family was enumerated at Port-Saint-Pierre, Isle Saint-Jean with one boy and 4 girls.[6] There was a 2nd census taken that year, on 30 November. On that day, they were counted at Port-Lajoie.[7] They had returned to Port-Saint-Pierre by 1730. [8]

After Pierre passed away around 1733, married Mathieu De Glain dit Cadet, a fisherman from Bayonne, France, son of Pierre de Glain and Catherine du Verger, on 28 February 1734, at St. Pierre du Nord, Isle Saint-Jean. [9] That same year they were enumerated at Havre-Saint-Pierre, Isle Saint-Jean, with 2 boys and 4 girls.[10]

Children: Marie Louise de Glain ca 1735-

Mathieu, age 58 and Marie, age 54, named in the 1752 La Roque census at Rivière de Peugiguit, Isle Saint-Jean with 4 children in the family home. The three older children were from her previous marriage.[11]

She died before November 27, 1759.

Marie Martin did not marry Pierre Bertrand, she married Pierre Bertaud dit Montaury, somewhere around 1714. Eventually either the name Berthaud or Montaury were dropped by descendants.
