Biography

I am indebted to his grandaughter who has provided the following information;

· Born David Colin Martin 1886 Sydney NSW Australia (His marriage to Ellen has his birthdate different because he lied about his age to get into the NZ army)

· Parents William John Martin 1869-1913 and Grace Emily Cameron 1876-1967 (she later re-married a bloke called Lyons)

· He joined and hitched a ride to NZ with the Wentworth Circus in around 1913

· He enlisted as Frederick David Cameron with the NZ Army, I know he was in Turkey and Germany .. not sure where else. He was Shot and arrested by MP’s for stealing Whiskey at one stage. He states his Rank is a Sapper N.Z.E.F.

He married Ellen Catherine Amos in Surry on 26th July 1919

They both leave from Avonmouth England on the Paparoa, Grandad with the NZ Armed forces and Ellen as a passenger. (Dad has a record of this with the NZ army that he was on the boat, but he doesn’t come up in the passenger list)

Ellen gets off the boat in Lyttelton and Grandad goes with the armed forces to wellington to be released from the Army.

He marries Myrtle Perea Williams in 1928 as Richard Reginald Cameron, he 2 children with her Donny and Anita. Donny drowned before I was born, my Aunty Nita still lives in NZ.

He Marries my Grandmother Aisla Winifred Molly Shuttleworth 24th July 1944 (says on marriage certificate he was born in Scotland, but wasn’t)

· Was killed by a car on the 2nd July 1956 in Otatara, Southland, New Zealand.
