Biography

Jeanne was born around 1676, likely in Port-Royal since her family was listed in the 1671 and 1678 censuses there. She was the daughter of Barnabé Martin and Jeanne Pelletret.[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Jeanne, aged 10, was living with her mother, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 45, the widow of Barnabe MARTIN, and six siblings: Marie, aged 18, Rene, aged 15, Madeleine [sic], aged 12, Estienne [sic], aged 8, and 2 other children. They were living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 6 cattle and 4 hogs.[2]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Jeanne, aged 18, was living with her stepfather, Jacque LEVANIA [sic], aged 40, and her mother, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 52, widow of Barnabe MARTIN, and her stepsister, Elisabeth [sic], aged 4, and her three siblings, children from her mother's marriage to Barnabe MARTIN: Rene, aged 22, Estienne [sic], aged 13, and Cecille, aged 11. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 16 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 12 sheep, and 6 pigs.[3]

Jeanne married Louis Chênet (Chesnay) dit La Garenne, son of Bertrand and Élisabeth Aubert, around 1697, in Acadie.
