Biography

Marie Martin, daughter of Barnabé Martin and Jeanne Pelletret, was born about 1667 in Acadie. She was age 4 on the census of Port-Royal taken in 1671.[1]

In 1686 at Port Royal, Marie, aged 18, was living with her mother, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 45, the widow of Barnabe MARTIN, and six siblings: Rene, aged 15, Madeleine [sic], aged 12, Jeanne, aged 10, Estienne [sic], aged 8, and two other children. They were living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 6 cattle and 4 hogs.[2]

About 1688, probably in Port-Royal, she married Andre Jacques Simon, an emigrant from France. The couple had nine children. Marie died on 3 March 1750 in Port-Royal and was buried there the next day.[3][4]

Just to complicate things, in the course of editing another entry, a source (Charles Samson, of LA) informed me:

"For Acadian Genealogy, you should refer to Stephen White's Dictionaire Genealogique des Familles Acadiennes as an excellent source. He lists the siblings of Jeanne Martin.... and Marie was not known as Marie Reine (and she married Andre Simon, not Simoneaux); Rene did not have a middle initial (St. Jean Baptiste de Port Royal was in Nova Scotia, not NB); and there was no Elizabeth."

There seems to be no documentation for Elizabeth, so I propose to delete her?
