Biography

Cecile Martin was born in 1682 in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Barnabe Martin and Jeanne Pelletret.

In 1686, at Port Royal, Cecile, aged 4, an unnamed child in the 1686 census, was living with her mother, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 45, the widow of Barnabe MARTIN, and 6 siblings: Marie, aged 18, Rene, aged 15, Madeleine [sic], aged 12, Jeanne, aged 10, Estienne [sic], aged 8, and 1 other child. They were living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 6 cattle and 4 hogs.[1]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Cecille, aged 11, was living with her stepfather, Jacque LEVANIA [sic], aged 40, and her mother, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 52, widow of Barnabe MARTIN, and her stepsister, Elisabeth [sic], aged 4, and her three siblings, children from her mother's marriage to Barnabe MARTIN: Rene, aged 22, Jeanne, aged 18, and Estienne [sic], aged 13. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 16 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 12 sheep, and 6 pigs.[2]

In the orginal 1693 census at Port Royal, Jacques was transcribed as Jacque, Le Vanier was listed as le Vania and transcribed as LEVANIA, Pelletret was listed as Peltret, Etienne was listed as Estienne, and Elizabeth was listed as Elisabet and transcribed as Elisabeth.

One of the unknown children of Barnabé Martin and Jeanne Pelletret should be removed, as the identity of one of the unnamed children in the 1671 census had to be Cécile Martin, as explained in the biography above.

Hi, Gérard, i this case, I have to say that the current child list is correct. White has two unknown children. The first one was born about 1672. The second was born about 1686. In the 1686 census (see images 31 and top of 32 of the original) has two unnamed children. Celeste is one of those, leaving 1 other unknown as referenced in the biography above. No corrections given.
