GEDCOM Note:

It was thought that James Allen Martin was widowed when he married Susie Henderson about 1902, but after finding Caroline alive and living with her sons in 1910 and 1920, this obviously was not the case. Family members have recently told me that James left Caroline, then later met and married Susie Henderson.

In 1900, Caroline is head of household with her children in Cooke Co., TX. She is not listed as widowed and reports being married for 29 years. In the same county and district, several census pages away, is a John Martin, dob June or Jan 1862, born in GA, with both parents born in GA. He is living alone, but reported as married for 29 years. Even though the name and dob do not match, I have a suspicion that this is actually James Allen Martin, Sr. and that he and Caroline are separated or divorced. Note that son, Charlie, is not included in the 1900 census with Caroline, even though he is reported to be 11 years old in the 1910 census. He must have been born very soon after the 1900 census was taken.
