Oliver was born about 1344. Oliver Martin ... [2]

The Martyns of Athelhampton, Dorset, came to England from near Bayeux in Normandy. The lands at Athelhampton came into the possession of the Martyn family in 1350 through the marriage of Sir Richard Martyn of Waterston, and a little over a century later, about the time of the Battle of Bosworth, Sir William Martyn built the beautiful manor at Athelhampton which still stands today. The last of the male line at Athelhampton was Sir Nicholas Martyn, who died in 1595, leaving his four daughters as his heiresses. The novelist Thomas Hardy wrote two poems about Athelhampton, and used it as the setting for one of his short stories (Athelhampton). [3]

Does anyone have any contemporaneous record of the existence of an Oliver Martin, said to be the father of a Robert Martyn of Athelhampton who married Agnes de Loundres (not Eliz. Kelway) in the late 14th century? I can find no record that confirms the existence of either Oliver Martyn or Agnes de Loundres, apart from pedigrees beginning with Wescote's in about 1630 and many, many following and copying Westcote.

It appears that Robert Martyn who married Margaret Basset or Bisset, had only two sons, William and Robert, both of whom with both their parents were dead by 1376. IPM 50 Edw. III File No. 256, BHO. See also "Kidderminster: Introduction, Borough and Manors," in A History of the County of Worcester: Volume 3 (London 1913) to same effect..

I can find no record of an Oliver Martyn in the tenures of Athelhampton.
