Biography

Simon was born about 1827. He married Marguerite Gallant in 1847. [1]The family was on the Island until about 1860, when they moved to Quebec [2]. In 1871, children at home were Armaline (Emmeline?) age 23, Joseph, 21, Florid, 16, Pierre, 14 - all born Prince Edward Island - and Francois, Edesse, and Jean, all age 9, born Quebec. By 1881, the family was in Restigouche, New Brunswick.[3] Their son Peter (1857), born PEI; and sons Francis and John, age 19, born New Brunswick.

Research Notes

There seems to have been another couple with the same name, and in the same area, if the date on their marriage record is correct.

Unfortunately, Rustico, by J. Henri Blanchard, does not include many dates, and he may have mixed up some of the baptismal records.

SIMON 1: "SIMON (Hall), fils de Pierre Martin et Anne Gallant, qui epousa Judith Doucet, fille de Jean Doucet et Marguerite Gaudet. One daughter, born 1813. Simon devenu veuf epousa Louise (aka Julie) Doiron, fille de Jean-Charles et Scholastique Poirier: Enfants: SIMON, m. a Marguerite Gallant, fille de Joseph et Gertrude Gaudet. Enfant: EMMELINE[4]. -the reason why there were only a few children listed in Rustico parish records could be because the family went to Quebec, and then to New Brunswick, and that children of the two couples became confused. Joseph, Floride and Pierre, listed below, might belong to this couple.

SIMON 2: CHARLES MARTIN, qui epousa Agnes Blanchard: SIMON, m. a Marguerite Gallant. Enfants: MARIE Spouse de Laurent Doi- ron, ANDRE Epoux de Christine Martin, EUSEBE, SYLVAIN Epoux de Genevieve Doiron (b. 1834), ISIDORE, LUCINE, OLIVE, ZACHARIE, SOPHIE, JOSEPH (b. 1850), LAURENT, FLORIDE (b. 1855), PIERRE (1857), JUDITH et GERTRUDE.
