Tobitha Martin was born 20 July 1793 in original Effingham County GA before Bulloch County was carved out. She is the daughter of Elder James & Mary Martin, a German-Baptist preacher, Farmer, Planter, & Master. On 11 March 1813, she married her first-cousin, Jessie Gieger, the s/o her Father's sister, Mary Mercy (Martin) Gieger.
They migrated to MS-Territory after their first child was born, settling in Covington County on the Okatoma Creek. They had four sons and four daughters.
Tobitha passed away on 17 November 1871 and was buried near an old wagon road, several hundred yards East of present day US-49 a few miles south of Collins. A concrete slab covers her Grave.
