I have studied and collected info on Samuel Rickey Pope and Ella Martin who first married Thomas Butner. Mary Kegley has a divorce book published that tell a little about why Thomas divorced Ella. My Samuel got caught with Ella and later, much later, married her, separated and got back togetherPer Virginia Marriages 178501940 Thomas A. Butner of Peter and Harriet E. Whitlock born 1857 in Wythe Va. married Letitia C. Cline on 26 March 1885 and his marital status at time of marriage was divorce.
