Research Notes
NOTE: from "Martin Family of Abbeville District, S. C." by William Bagwell, Cheyney, PA 19319, Published June, 1981.
William or "Billy" married a neighboring girl, Letitia or "Lettie" Hughes, and they soon set up housekeeping on an adjoining farm, which was probably a part of the original tract which his parents had acquired earlier. The log/frame house, which Billy and Lettie built, stood for 120 years or more, being known in its later life as the "Rhoda Martin Place" in memory of one of their three spinster daughters who lived there for many years. The three, Rhoda. Mary "Polly", and Leitia "Lettie" where known throughout the area for their spinning and weaving. They never married, one family story telling us that "their three young men" all went off to the Civil War and never returned.
