Edouard Amede Martin, born in 1872, was the biological son of Edouard Martin and Louisa Simon.[1] His mother, Louisa, was the youngest daughter of Charles Simon and Perosine Leger, and when she was first married, the young couple started out living next door to her parents and her two younger brothers still at home.[2] Norbert "Nawbaa" Simon, the youngest brother of Louisa, took Edouard Amede in at some point, for reasons unknown at this time. Edouard is listed with Nawbaa, his wife Edmonia, and their baby Carmelite on the 1880 census as their 8- year-old son.[3] That he was their son was certainly an error on the census-taker's part, unless they had adopted him. Both were too young to have had an 8-year-old child. He may have just been there to help get their farm started. At this point it is unknown if Edouard Amede went back home to his parents, if they were alive, or if he was raised by Nawbaa and Edmonia.
