Cecelia Rosa Martin was born in 1855, the sixth child of William James and Mary Ann (Wheatcroft) Martin, in Oakland County, Michigan, where she was raised. Rosa, as she was called, was the first child of William and Mary to be born in America.
Through the 1880 US Census Rosa was single and still living with her mother in Michigan. It's unclear when she relocated to Southern California, but in December of 1892, when she was 37 years of age, Rosa married George Winchester Mason, the son of John and Rosannah (Devol-Scribner) Mason, in San Bernardino, California. They would settle in Riverside County, California and have one child:
Lourena Cecelia (Mason) Green (1893-1960)
Rosa and George would not stay together too long. Even though he was still alive in 1900, Rosa is described as a widow in that year's US Census. George lived until 1915 while Rosa followed her daughter north to Tulare County, California, where she died in 1946 at 91 years old. Her body is buried next to several relatives in the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery in Lindsay, Tulare County, California.
