Letitia Mary "Lettice" Martin was married first to James Carter, born circa 1750, in Virginia and served as an officer, during the American Revolutionary War. As a Captain, serving as Aide-de-Camp o Colonel Elijah Clarke, James was killed in action, on September 18, 1780, in Augusta, Richmond county, Georgia. James Carter is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A019945. DAR records indicate that his wife's name was Mary Martin. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of Farish Carter and his wife, Eliza McDonald. [1] Mary (Martin) Carter delivered her son, two months after her husband's death:

  • Colonel Farish Carter, born November 23, 1780, in South Carolina, died June 17, 1861, in Baldwin county, Georgia, Cartersville, Georgia was named in his memory in 1854 [2]

Letitia's third husband was Thomas Winn, born circa 1750, in Virginia. Thomas was living in Lunenburg county, Virginia at the time of the Revolutionary War and furnished beef for the War effort. He is also honored by the DAR as Ancestor #A128768. Thomas died before March 28, 1797, in Abbeville, in what was at the time the Ninety Six District of South Carolina. [3] DAR gives the names of many of the children of Thomas Winn, but probably most were the children of his first wife, Philadelphia (unknown maiden name). Letitia and Thomas had a daughter:

  • Lettice "Letty" Winn born 1788, died 1829 [4]

In determining who the parents of Lettice Mary Martin are, one is tempted to attach her to John Martin and Mary Ann Farish. This would account for the name of her son, Farish Carter. There is, however, a Lititia Martin, born March 5, 1735, in Albemarle county, Virginia, already attached to this set of parents. She is the wife of William B. West and died in 1784, in King William county, Virginia (no sources): https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Martin-66411

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/40652278/letitia-%22lettice%22-winn The Find A Grave memorial manager admits that the birth and death dates for Letitia are not known to them. I suspect that the birth date of March 5, 1735 is early, since both of her husbands were born circa 1750. The place of death is Abbeville, South Carolina, however that is probably based on the death of her third husband, who died there in 1797. Not sure where the death date is coming from. More research is required.

Winn-35 and Martin-27140 appear to represent the same person because: They both appear to be the same person.

The other Letitia does not appear to belong, so I added this Letitia even though I did not yet disconnect the other one.
