U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Salathiel Martin was a Virginia colonist.

Captain Salathiel Martin, son of David and Mary Martin, was born in 1753. His widow's pension applicatin gives her birth (Mary Cook Martin) as Aug 23, 1763. The date is always mistaken as the birthdate of Salathiel, who was ten years her senior. And, if you think about it, Salathiel Martin would not have been old enough to obtain the rank of Captain by the time he was fighting in the Revolution in 1770's and early 1780's. (by Steve Smith, gggg grandson, thru his daughter Mary Martin-VanBebber of Claiborne County, TN)

Captain Salathiel Martin, son of David Martin, and Mary Mann. Salathiel Martin was born on New South Wales Plantation in Amherst county VA on August 23, 1763.[1]

His Father, David Martin, his brother Obediah Martin, and another brother, Joseph Martin, all fought in the Revolutionary War from Surry County, North Carolina.[2][3]

Captain Salathiel Martin married Mary Cook in Surry, North Carolina, on April 23, 1782, when he was 18 years old.[4]

Salathiel Martin died on May 6, 1827 in Clairborne, Tennessee. [5]

Martin-51471 and Martin-28830 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Same wife (also a duplicate) and both linked to the same Find A Grave memorial.

I have a lot more family information to enter. When that is completed, I will entertain allowing someone to merge with Martin 41327 with me as profile manager.

Fair enough. I have never looked beyond Salathiel. I removed his ancestors so I think now merging would work.

Reason for unmerging Martin 28830 and martin 41327 ........................

I think that I have enough credible proof that Captain James Martin 1699 - 1775 is my 5th great grandfather, however I have not seen any credible documentation to prove that Abram or Zechariah Abraham, 1644 . is his father. I would like to find that documentation and move on to verify his ancestors. The ancestors listed for Capt. James Martin in Ireland and England run in several directions and so far I have found none of them are credible. That is the reason that I do not want to merge these Martin trees. If you have any documentation to prove James's ancestors or if you have questions, please let me know.
