On September 10th, at the residence of her son, Stratford, Isabella Watson, widow of the Campbell McAllister, of Dunedin, dearly loved mother of Mrs Benfell, JP, in her 100th year.
OBITUARY.The death occurred today of Mrs Isabella McAllister, in her 100th year. She had enjoyed good health until recently and appeared to have every prospect of reaching the century in May of next year. Mrs McAllister was born at Greenoch, Scotland, and was married before she went to Dunedin in 1875. Her husband died 5 years afterward, and she had been a widow for 60 years. Mrs McAllister is survived by 3 daughters and 1 son
Her name 'Isabella Watson' is thought to have come from the ship her father may have served on, the barque Isabella Watson The Northern Cemetry records record her father died at sea when she was about eight years old, The Isabella Watson foundered in NSW 1851 but while passengers who lost their lives are listed - it is challenging to find a crew list!
