Biography

There does not seem to be evidence of the first name John, so it has been removed. All known records for him show just the name Alexander Martin. He was probably born in North Carolina. His father died in Warren County, NC in 1785[1] and his mother, Sarah, married Richmond Terrell in Warren County in 1786. In his will, his father left his land on "Gilkey's Creek" in SC to his wife Sarah. Richmond Terrell later sold this land (the deed is below).

He married Hannah Guyton in 1798 in South Carolina. They had seven children in 17 years. [2]

His daughter Elizabeth married George Wilkins, whose mother was Elizabeth Terrell.

He died on June 18, 1846, in Ethelsville, Alabama, at the age of 72, and was buried in Macedonia, Alabama.[3]
