Van was the son of Ethan and Minnie(Thompson) Martin from Putnam Co. Tn. Cookeville After the death of his father in 1900, his mother Minnie married Leonidas Cantrell and he had 3 half brother's: Paul, Howard and Hugh. They lived in Nashville Tn. in 1910.
He Worked for the Tennessee Central Railway Co. Auditor of freight accounts in Nashville Tn Retired August 31-1963 after more than 51 years continuous service
