James Martindale volunteered as a Private soldier in the South Carolina militia for one year under Colonel Thomas Brandon, Lieutenant Colonel Wm McLure, and Captain William Young. He was at the attack on Colonel Patrick Ferguson on King's Mountain and the Siege of 96. By then he was a Lieutenant.
