Biography
There is much confusion about the wives of Richard Knowles 1718-1791. He married twice and there is much conjecture that he married sisters named Patience and Prudence. However, no document has been produced that proves these were the names of his wives or that they were sisters.
GENEALOGICAL NOTE: There is NO proof that either of Richard Knowles Sr.'s wives was named "Marvel" at birth. Family traditions state that they were sisters, but of Finnish origins, whereas the Marvel family was an established English family that settled first in Virginia's Eastern Shore and then moved north into Maryland and Delaware. The creator of this profile also created an "Unnamed Father Marvel" Marvel-99 (now wrongly merged with Marvel-102 so no longer valid), to "hold the place" for these 2 women's father until more evidence could be found. That profile should not be confused with David Marvel who had 2 daughters names "Patience" and "Prudence" but one generation later. One of those daughters did marry Richard Knowles Jr. but not his father. Chet Snow, Dec. 15, 2016. Edit: Oct 8, 2019 due to inappropriate merge of Marvel-102 and Marvel-99, so it now represents a man born in 1763 and brother to the Patience & Prudence Marvel mentioned in the above paragraph.

I am rejecting the proposed merge of this profile with Prudence (Marvel) Knowles (Marvel-40). There is NO evidence that these were the same woman and family stories say they were sisters, both married to Richard Knowles (due to the death of one of them). There is also NO evidence they were born into the Marvel family; only stories and the known intermarriages of the 2 families. More research is definitely needed.

I am very hesitant about merging these profiles and One Thing is 100% Certain, Neither of these women was the Patience Marvel that was the daughter of Prettyman Marvel Marvel-99. He was born in 1763 and his daughter Patience (or Patiance) was born ca. 1796 and married Robert Montgomery, my direct ancestors, NOT Richard Knowles. I am removing him as her father.

Marvel-40 and Marvel-8 are not ready to be merged because: More research needs to be done. Not all the siblings match and the notes Chet mentioned are enough to postpone until better information can be obtained.
