Biography

Martha Mason (16 Feb 1815 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 2 Mar 1896 Sinnemahoning, Cameron, Pennsylvania) daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Grugan) Mason.

About 1841 she married John Brooks (17 JUN 1814 Lock Haven, Clinton, Pennsylvania - 26 MAR 1893 Potter County, Pennsylvania) the eldest son of Benjamin Brooks (1753–1838) and Mary Wood (1777–1857).

He was a real estate agent, surveyor and also involved with lumbering operations. In 1843 elected one of the first commissioners of Elk County for a term of three years and also served in the Pennsylvania legislature in 1877-78 and '79. He gave lectures of various topics. He wrote a brief history of Cameron County and contributed data to the history of McKean, Potter, Elk and Cameron Counties[1].

They had ten children:
